Running my first 10K marathon in Kazanlak, Bulgaria, during the Rose Valley Festival was an incredible journey. Despite starting with stress and nerves, the day turned into a heartwarming and inspiring experience.
Preparing for the 10K Marathon
Today is the day of my first 10K marathon in my hometown of Kazanlak, Bulgaria, organized as part of the Rose Valley Festival. After running several 5K races, I decide to take the next step and join this event.
I registered months ago, but due to stress and various problems, I feel angry and nervous before heading to the marathon. However, everything suddenly changes for the better—thanks to God.
The Start Line Energy
At the start, I meet some friends and notice runners of all ages from various towns in Bulgaria and even abroad. The atmosphere is buzzing with excitement. There are three disciplines—10K, 24K, and 42K. I feel amazed watching participants over 60 years old preparing for the grueling 42K marathon.

At the Start Line of the Rose Valley Marathon in Kazanlak
I am here for the 10K and simply hope to finish. The weather isn’t kind, and it begins to rain just as we start running. Despite this, the rain adds a unique charm to the experience.
Memorable Moments During the Run
The energy from the crowd and fellow participants keeps me going. At the first checkpoint, I spot a friend cheering for me, and an organizer gives me a high five, which lifts my spirits.
A cheerful garbage collector shouts, “Hey, number 31!” with a laugh, making me smile. Spectators along the way greet and cheer us, creating a joyful and encouraging atmosphere.
As I struggle near the end, a little girl notices me walking and runs alongside me for 500 meters. Her gesture fills me with energy and determination to continue. Small moments like these make the run truly special.
Crossing the Finish Line
Reaching the final stretch, a car driver beeps at me in encouragement. At the finish line, I am congratulated by a seasoned runner with international records and a friend who inspires me with their kindness.

Crossing the Finish Line
Although I doubt my ability to complete the 10K on time due to my lack of training, I manage to finish. I place 76th out of 89 participants who completed the race.

With a Medal in the End of the Marathon
Running this 10K marathon is an incredible experience. The positive energy, the support from strangers, and the inspiration from older runners are unforgettable. I deeply admire everyone who completed the 10K, 24K, and even the 42K distances.
Kudos to the organizers for a fantastic event. And thank You, Lord, for this wonderful day.
