My visit to the Stara Zagora Zoo was an extraordinary experience. From cycling through the park to standing face-to-face with wild animals, it was both fascinating and terrifying at times.
Cycling to Stara Zagora Zoo
I start my day by catching a bus to Stara Zagora, a town near my hometown of Kazanlak. I bring along my folding bike, which is a bit heavy but manageable. Upon arriving, I cycle through the park to the zoo, excited to see what awaits.
Meeting the Wild Creatures
My visit begins with the bird enclosure, where I admire several beautiful species. Next, I make my way to the lion’s cage. Even though the lion is behind bars, I feel a hint of fear. Stories of animals escaping zoos flash through my mind, making the encounter more intense.

Moving on, I see a bear, an African tiger, and a Bengali tiger. A lynx catches my attention as it hisses at me from its cage—an unnerving sound that sends a chill down my spine.

A Lynx Hisses at Me
At the monkey encloure, the animals seem playful, but their antics feel more mocking than amusing. It reminds me that animals act purely on instinct—they hunt, fight, and breed, without the morality or emotions humans associate with a soul.
The Eerie Stare of a Wolf
The wolves are the most unsettling. Staring into the eyes of one of them, I sense a raw, primal energy—hatred, death, and violence. It’s a sobering reminder of the power and danger of wild creatures.

An Ostrich Encounter
An ostrich follows me as I pass by its enclosure. Its behavior feels oddly human, reminding me of a female friend of mine. Though amusing, the ostrich’s attention makes me uneasy.

Reflecting on Zoo Escapes
Later, I read about animals escaping zoos and the dramatic incidents that followed. In one case, a man in Colombia entered a lion’s cage with disastrous consequences. In another, a man tried to prove his bravery by facing lions in their cage. These stories reinforce the unpredictable nature of wild animals.
I thought visiting the zoo would be purely fun, but it turned out to be more frightening than I expected. Watching tigers devour their meat makes me imagine being trapped in their cage—a terrifying thought that even gives me nightmares. Wild animals are powerful, primal, and, in many ways, unrelatable to humans. Thank You, Lord, for the safe experience and the lessons learned.
